There will also be an opportunity to support the Teacher’s Fund via purchasing $10 raffle tickets for one of five iPad’s to be given away. The Teacher’s Fund is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit designed to help local public and private kindergarten-through-5th-grade school teachers buy the supplies and books they so desperately need.
For CEO Jim Wallace, one of the most satisfying aspects of owning Intracoastal Realty is educating and supporting the company’s 250+ agents and helping them achieve their goals. So it’s no surprise that Wallace is a passionate advocate of education and its ability to transform young minds into successful adults. In 2005, his interest in education took a giant leap forward with the creation of an innovative non-profit entitled the Intracoastal Realty Teacher’s Fund.
The mission of the Teacher’s Fund is to raise funds and distribute grants to local teachers to assist them in purchasing books and school supplies for their classrooms. The Teacher’s Fund focuses on public and private school teachers in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties. Grants are restricted for use in kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms.
“Teachers have one of the most important jobs in today’s society, and unfortunately, their needs often outweigh their resources,” said Wallace. “The Teacher’s Fund helps fill the funding gap and enables teachers to purchase the supplies and books they need for their students.”
Wallace launched the Teacher’s Fund with a personal donation, and since that time, the fund has grown with generous gifts from the community and Intracoastal Realty agents. To date, Intracoastal Realty has given away more than 1,075 grants valued at $223,000. These grants have impacted more than 105,000 students in the tri-county area.
Grants are awarded monthly to teachers who submit applications. Applications are available online at www.intracoastalrealty.com/TeachersFund.
A Teacher’s Fund committee comprised of Intracoastal representatives and local teachers meet on a monthly basis to review applications and select grant recipients.
Intracoastal Realty recently inducted three new members to the Board of Directors. Maria Greene, principal of College Park Elementary, and Constance Lamar, second grade teacher at Winter Park Elementary, join Intracoastal Realty agent Susan Paulson on the board. Each will serve a two-year term. Departing Board members include Tammy Bruestle, principal at Ogden Elementary, Lesley Warren, kindergarten teacher at Pine Valley Elementary, and Intracoastal Realty agent Michelle Clark.
One of the primary funding mechanisms of the Teacher’s Fund is Beacon Title Insurance, of which Intracoastal Realty has an ownership interest. For each policy purchased, 50% of Intracoastal Realty’s proceeds automatically go to the Teacher’s Fund. Homebuyers working with Intracoastal Realty can support the Teacher’s Fund by requesting Beacon Title insurance during the purchasing process.
In 2011, Intracoastal Realty expanded its fundraising efforts for the Teacher’s Fund with an iPad holiday raffle. The raffle raised $6,000 and was such a success that Intracoastal Realty has decided to make it an annual event. This year, five iPads will be given away. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any Intracoastal Realty agent or online atIntracoastalRealty.com/TeachersFund. Intracoastal Realty will donate the winning iPads to the raffle to ensure that 100% of all money raised will go directly to the Teacher’s Fund. Winners will be announced on December 18th and posted online at IntracoastalRealty.com/TeachersFund.
• Make a charitable contribution. The Teacher’s Fund is a 501c3 non-profit and donations are tax-deductible.
• When purchasing a home through Intracoastal Realty, request Beacon Title Insurance – it costs no more than any other insurance and 50% of the proceeds go directly to the Teacher’s Fund.
• Purchase a $10 chance to win an iPad! 100% of the proceeds go to the Teacher’s Fund.
