Labor Day Projects

Projects to do Before (or during) Labor Day Weekend

The longer days and warmer temperatures of summer are drawing to an end. The end of summer is here and now it’s time get outside and finish your home improvement projects. The long Labor Day weekend may be the ideal time to complete your projects. But, if you decide to cram lots of work into the weekend, just remember to take time and enjoy yourself too. Labor Day weekend is supposed to be fun, right!

Curb Appeal Projects

It never hurts to increase your curb appeal. Projects such as exterior painting, landscaping or installing a new front door can do wonders for a home. Just remember that paint does not cure in cold or wet weather, so warmer weather is the time to play with a paintbrush.

Pressure Washing & Seal

This is one project that will provide lots of satisfaction! Although pressure washing will be a full day’s work, it’s worth seeing your surfaces brighten. Your driveways and deck get a beating year round and deserve to be freshened up. Remember to apply a stain or sealant after you clean your deck to protect it from rain or snow during the upcoming months.

And while you are at it, go ahead and seal the driveway too! If you see cracks or holes in your driveway now, they will most likely get worse with winter weather. Seal or repair your driveway to prevent further damage.

Clean and Caulk Windows

Clear your view by taking the time to clean the outside of your windows. Take note of any cracks or any places that may need caulking while you are cleaning, Unattended drafty or leaky windows can be costly to homeowners-both in lost energy and as a breeding place for both mold and mildew. Sealing your windows (and doors) well will ensure your home stays warmer and your utility bill stays lower during the colder winter months.

Clean out the Garage (or other spaces)

Working in a cold garage during the chilly winter months isn’t a lot of fun. Get a head start by de-cluttering and organizing now while the weather is nice. The bonus to this task is you can donate unwanted items to charity.
