In the Coastal Carolina region, boating
is one the most popular
pastimes and represents a lifestyle important to the history of
the Cape Fear. Whether
you are walking downtown along the river or crossing the
Intracoastal Waterway in
route to the beach, you cannot avoid the abundance of boats
present in our community.
Children are brought up playing water sports and residents spend
their days fishing,
sailing, or just cruising the coast. The sun shines and
temperature is mild most
of the year providing pristine conditions for the water
enthusiasts.
Marinas around the region are almost always full with sailboats
and during the warm
days the colorful sails and hulls dot the waters. Bridges rise
and yield to the vessels periodically throughout the days.
Sailors from all over the world travel
to or through our region in their sailing adventures.
The Coastal Carolina region includes
Wrightsville
Beach,
Carolina Beach,
Kure Beach as well as
Topsail Island
and
Brunswick County beaches. Boaters
can be seen off the coast tubing, water skiing, wakeboarding, or
just speeding by
in the waves. Also, the Intracoastal Waterway provides wonderful
stretches for the
above mentioned activities. During the summer months, contests
are held at local
beaches or the Cape Fear River promoting wakeboarding where
professional athletes
of the sport are brought into the area.
Fishing is one of the strongest passions amongst residents and
visitors of our area.
Tournaments are held mostly during the summer months for salt
and fresh water competitions,
but fishing is a year-round sport in our temperate climate.
Marlin, sailfish, mahi-mahi, mackerel, yellowfin tuna, and giant bluefin tuna are just
a few of the trophies
anglers can pull from the North Carolina
coastal waters. Also, some fishermen venture further offshore to
the Gulfstream
where deeper waters hold an abundance of fish.
No matter what water sport is your passion; our community can
indulge it. Southeastern
North Carolina is a paradise for the boater in us all.
